Lemurs are considered one of the most endangered groups of animals on the planet. Originating from Madagascar, lemurs occupy many different habitats: dry deciduous forests, spiny forests, rain forests, wetlands and mountains. Lemurs are social creatures and live in groups called troops. Small lemurs are typically nocturnal and live alone, but are still social with other lemurs. They like to sleep with groups of other lemurs and spend their awake time in trees. When they’re not eating, lemurs like to groom each other or sunbathe.
And sunbathe they will, even in the middle of winter, in their new electric underfloor heated enclosures! We were absolutely thrilled to play a part in this awesome project with Monarto Safari Park, Australia’s biggest open-range zoo just one hour’s drive from Adelaide.
We worked alongside the team at Nedesa Flooring to install electric underfloor heating for those lucky little lemurs’ sleeping quarters. They'll be snuggled up, sleeping warm and cosy on their new beds. How lucky are these little guys!
How does electric underfloor heating work?
Now, if it’s good enough for the lemurs, it’s more than good enough for your home! So, what is electric underfloor heating and how does it work?
Electric underfloor heating uses heated cables and mats under a variety of floor surfaces to heat the room. This is called radiant heat. Unlike convection heat, which can be drying and inefficient, radiant heat means there is minimal heat loss to exhaust air. Radiant heat also reduces the amount of allergens and dust particles in the air. Great news for asthma and allergy sufferers!
Electric underfloor heating works well under any hard surface without taking up valuable floor space. It can be fitted to new or existing floors and is ideal for wet areas such as bathrooms, laundry rooms and ensuites.
